Sathpathy Residence

The brief

Prem S Satapathy's brief was for a luxury residential interior on a minimal white-and-gold palette, with highly detailed custom spaces — an apartment at IRC Village, Nayapalli, one of Bhubaneswar's established residential addresses.

The constraint

A two-colour palette is the hardest brief in interiors. There is nowhere for a mistake to hide: every junction, every edge and every tolerance is visible, because there is no pattern or contrast to absorb it. White shows every deviation in level and line; gold goes from elegant to gaudy over a very short distance.

The kitchen adds a second discipline. Modular systems come in fixed increments, and a room rarely does — closing that gap without visible filler pieces is detail work.

What we did

We treated the palette as a constraint to be enforced rather than a theme to be referenced, and used gold sparingly — as line work and hardware rather than as surface. That keeps it reading as jewellery on the room instead of as a finish.

Joinery was drawn to the surveyed dimensions of the flat, so the modular kitchen meets the walls cleanly instead of with a filler strip. Storage was custom throughout, which in a minimal scheme is not a luxury: with no visual clutter permitted, everything has to have somewhere to go.

Because we executed the work as well, the tolerances that a white scheme depends on were held on site rather than negotiated away.

The result

A home where the detailing is the point — a restrained palette, a kitchen that fits its room exactly, and storage that keeps the minimalism honest rather than theoretical.
